34 Overcoming Temptation

As a teenager, this little motto went through my head and my heart many times. I knew that if I had to think about something, or try to justify it, it probably wasn’t a good idea. I’m glad that I listened to that little rhyme and that it helped me. What do you think about Potiphar’s wife trying to get Joseph to sleep with her? Genesis 39:9, 12 Though Joseph had been sold by his brothers into Egypt, he quickly rose in authority and became Potiphar’s top and trusted servant. He put him over all his affairs, but he drew the line when Potiphar’s wife wanted him to have an affair with her. He said, How can I do this thing and sin against God? He wouldn’t do it. But that didn’t keep her from continuing to try day after day. Joseph showed his devotion to God by resisting Potiphar’s wife’s advances. Life’s...

185 Coping with Sadness and Depression

In a very real and intimate way the Lord knows you and understands you perfectly, because he lived all of your sadnesses, sicknesses, and trials in an infinite and eternal atonement. Jesus Christ Will Carry Our Grief and Pain Our Heavenly Father loves each of us so much. He wanted us to experience the joy of having a mortal body and of personal growth; but, He also understood that we would deal with sadness, discouragement, disappointment, and depression at times. He sent His Son for that very reason; not just so that we can repent of our sins and one day return to Heaven, so that we could receive Heaven’s help constantly, because Jesus was willing to suffer for us and more especially with us. Also think about how when we let God prevail, He enables us to prevail.  Isaac and Rebekah were sad that Esau had decided to marry outside of the covenant. If you remember, Abraham had sent his servant to go find a wife for Isaac among his brother’s family, and Isaac wanted Jacob to do the same thing. So he went and he met his Uncle Laban. He fell in love with Rachel right off and wanted to marry her. Laban was happy about that too, but he wanted something out of it, so he made Jacob work for him for seven years so that he could marry Rachel. Jacob loved her so much that he didn’t mind doing that. Genesis 29: 20 20  And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him  but  a few days, for the love he had to her. What happe...

197 Sharing the Gospel in Natural Ways

197 Sharing the Gospel in Natural Ways Sharing the Gospel in Natural Ways Abraham 2:11 One of the responsibilities that we have in the Abrahamic covenant and as members of Christ’s Church is to share the gospel. Share experiences? Have any of you ever had a great experience? Have you had a new incredible dessert? How would you describe it? What was your favorite vacation? Where did you go? What did you see? How did you feel? Have you ever met someone who thinks a lot the same way you do? How would you describe your friendship? Can you finish each other’s sentences? What things in life make you tick? What do you find interesting? When you find new things that interest you, who do you want to tell? How are you experiencing the gospel? How are you interacting with the Lord and with your own developing testimony? Is it something that you value? Can you describe an experience that you have had with the Spirit? Is it important to you to share spiritual feelings and gifts with ...
