27 A Similitude of Jesus Christ

27 A Similitude of Jesus Christ https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-seminary-manual-2026/09-genesis-18-23/093-genesis-22?lang=eng Abraham was told to offer Isaac as a sacrifice by the same God who told him to flee from the land of his fathers because of human sacrifice, where his own father sought to sacrifice him to an idol god. Even if we don’t understand why, I think that we can all see that it was a test for Abraham. Did He truly believe in Jehovah, Jesus Christ? Did he have faith to trust Him even when he didn’t understand? He had been promised that through Isaac his posterity would continue forever. Jacob 4:5 5  Behold, they believed in Christ and worshiped the Father in his name, and also we worship the Father in his name. And for this intent we keep the law of Moses, it pointing our souls to him; and for this cause it is sanctified unto us for righteousness, even as it was accounted unto Abraham ...

24 Our Responsibilities in the Abrahamic Covenant

24 Our Responsibilities in the Abrahamic Covenant https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-seminary-manual-2026/08-genesis-12-17-abraham-1-2/083-abraham-2?lang=eng The Lord made a covenant with Abraham and his posterity. As the seed of Abraham, we have a covenant responsibility to bring the blessings of the Savior’s gospel to all the families of the earth. When Jesus visited His disciples after His resurrection, when He was ascending again to heaven, “two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This  same  Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:10-11) All who have enjoyed the blessings of the covenant have the same responsibility to be missionaries to others. Does the gospel of Jesus Christ matter to you? Why? Do you think all people need it? Why? When do you think the Abrahamic Covenant will be fulfil...

23 The Abrahamic Covenant

23 The Abrahamic Covenant https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-seminary-manual-2026/08-genesis-12-17-abraham-1-2/082-genesis-12-17?lang=eng Just like us today, Abraham entered into a covenant with the Lord. With us it begins at baptism. Some of the parallels between Abraham’s day and our day: Male children were circumcised at eight days old as a token of the covenant their parents had made and that they would make at eight years old. Today, our children are often given a name and a blessing as an ordinance. It is not a necessary ordinance for salvation, but it does show that the parents want to raise their children in the faith and help them to be ready for baptism and covenant making at eight years old. Abrahamic Covenant Through further study, we know that Abraham sought after the gifts and blessings that he knew the righteous fathers before him had, and that the priesthood was handed down through Adam to his righteous sons and to theirs as wel...

20 Noah Did … All That the Lord Commanded

20 Noah Did … All That the Lord Commanded https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-seminary-manual-2026/07-genesis-6-11-moses-8/072-genesis-6-8?lang=eng This lesson, before the flood, mirrors the evil in the world today, before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Why do you think that people get to the point where they think they know better than history, or even better than God?   There is no sophistry in wickedness or in pride. Through humility and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and keeping His commandments, we can stay safe in a very troubled world. Just like in Noah’s time, our loving Heavenly Father has asked us to keep His commandments, not to limit our happiness and joy, but to increase it. Noah’s family was miraculously saved from the flood, because the kept the commandments, built the ark as instructed, and trusted in the Lord. How can we also be saved in today’s world, while there is a flood of wickedness going on all around us? Have ...

18 The King of Zion Will Preserve His People

18 The King of Zion Will Preserve His People https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-seminary-manual-2026/06-moses-7/063-moses-7?lang=eng Jesus is the King of Zion! He watches over His people, and in the last days He will preserve them from the great tribulations that will occur. Moses 7:53 53  And the Lord said: Blessed is he through whose seed Messiah shall come; for he saith—I am Messiah, the King of Zion, the Rock of Heaven, which is broad as eternity; whoso cometh in at the gate and climbeth up by me shall never fall; wherefore, blessed are they of whom I have spoken, for they shall come forth with songs of everlasting joy. What are some of the trials that are going on in the world around us in these last days? Where can you find peace and safety, even when you know of wickedness surrounding you, or even when you have some of your own trials that are bothering you? Remember that Jesus ca...

17 Enoch's vision

17 Enoch’s Vision: Moses 7:22–47 https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-seminary-manual-2026/06-moses-7/062-moses-7?lang=eng Think about when you have felt God’s mercy in your life? What were those circumstances? How did it feel to know that God loves you and that He is with you to help you? How do you think you’d feel if you were shown a vision of the earth’s history? Enoch had that. He saw all that would happen until Jesus came again for the Millennium and that the Earth would finally get her rest. Enoch learned about our Father’s love for all His children. He couldn’t understand why God, the Creator of all could weep for those who go astray. It’s because of His great love. Enoch learned about that love, and He began to feel like God feels. God has mercy for every single one of us. Share a message of God’s mercy which you have experienced. With help and guidance from the Lord, Enoch established the City of Zion. The people of Zion were unifi...
