27 A Similitude of Jesus Christ
27 A Similitude of Jesus Christ
Abraham was told to offer Isaac as a sacrifice by the same
God who told him to flee from the land of his fathers because of human
sacrifice, where his own father sought to sacrifice him to an idol god. Even if
we don’t understand why, I think that we can all see that it was a test for
Abraham. Did He truly believe in Jehovah, Jesus Christ? Did he have faith to
trust Him even when he didn’t understand? He had been promised that through
Isaac his posterity would continue forever.
Jacob
4:5 5 Behold, they believed in Christ
and worshiped the Father in his name, and also we worship the Father
in his name. And for this intent we keep the law of
Moses, it pointing our souls to him; and for this cause it is
sanctified unto us for righteousness, even as it was accounted unto Abraham in
the wilderness to be obedient unto the commands of God in offering up his son
Isaac, which is a similitude of God and his Only Begotten Son.
Do you have a favorite scripture that shows God’s
love for you?
President Uchtdorf:
Think of the purest, most all-consuming love you can
imagine. Now multiply that love by an infinite amount—that is the measure of
God’s love for you.
God does not look on the outward appearance. I believe that
He doesn’t care one bit if we live in a castle or a cottage, if we are handsome
or homely, if we are famous or forgotten. Though we are incomplete, God loves
us completely. Though we are imperfect, He loves us perfectly. Though we may
feel lost and without compass, God’s love encompasses us completely.
How often do you feel or recognize the love Heavenly
Father and Jesus Christ has for you?
Remember, Abraham sought to have a relationship with God. He
sought more knowledge and more righteousness.
Challenge the students to make a habit of 3-minute
prayers twice a day (and then increase it, and speak to God whenever you feel
gratitude, need help, are lonely, are frightened…in whatever circumstance you
might be in.)
Make sure also that you pay attention to impressions
from the Holy Ghost that can help you feel the love of Heavenly Father and
Jesus Christ.
John
3:16 16 ¶ For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the
world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might
be saved.
- How
does the Savior’s atoning sacrifice demonstrate the love Heavenly Father
and Jesus Christ have for us?
Tell the students about the challenge you and Bob had in
graciously giving Robby back to our Heavenly Father and trusting that we will
be blessed for our faith and courage.
Heavenly Father willingly gave His Son, knowing that He
would experience all of our pains, sicknesses, and sorrows. That’s a lot. It
shows us how important each of us are to both Heavenly Father and to Jesus.
They value us so much!
