42 Passover
42 Passover
Have you ever felt stuck, trapped, or hopeless? The children
of Israel were captives in Egypt. They wanted to be free to worship God and build
their own civilizations.
A Final Plague:
Exodus
11:4–6
4 And Moses said, Thus saith the Lord, About midnight will I
go out into the midst of Egypt:
5 And all the firstborn in the land of
Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his
throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind
the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.
6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all
the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any
more.
What were the Israelites instructed to do so that they would
not be afflicted with this plague, so that the first born of their children and
their beasts would not die?
Exodus
12:13, 23
13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the
houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass
over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when
I smite the land of Egypt.
23 For
the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when
he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts,
the Lord will pass over the door, and will
not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to
smite you.
Because the Lord was pass by the houses that where the
lamb’s blood was on the doorposts, this time became known as the Passover.
(Can you see the symbolism in that. Those who are washed clean through
repentance by the blood of the lamb will also be saved. The Lord will pass over
them when the destroying angels are sent.)
The food of the Passover was symbolic and sacred.
Exodus
12:43 43 ¶ And the Lord said unto Moses and
Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: There shall
no stranger eat thereof:
In a very real way, the Lord taught the Israelites about Him
in the Passover meal. The Last Supper was also the Passover meal that His
disciples shared with Him. During that meal, the Lord instituted the sacrament.
He became the Great and Last Sacrifice for all of us.
