43 This Do in Remembrance of Me
43 This Do in Remembrance of Me
Why is it important for you to remember Heavenly Father and
Jesus Christ?
Because Heavenly Father wanted the children of Israel to
remember that it was He who delivered them from Israel, He instituted the
Passover.
Today, He wants us to remember that He instituted the
Sacrament to remind us that He has freed us from death and sin.
God’s desires to free all of His children from captivity.
If you were told that Jesus would be visiting your Sacrament
meeting on Sunday, what would you think? Would you plan to be there? Would you
prepare more than you usually do? Would you be on time?
When the Lord told the children of Israel to prepare the Passover
meal, He also told them that they must continue this tradition throughout their
generations to always remember Him and what He had done for them.
Exodus
12:14, 17
14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial;
and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your
generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread;
for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land
of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an
ordinance for ever.
Jesus and His disciples were observing the Passover when they
had the Last Supper together.
Exodus
12:25–27
25 And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which
the Lord will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall
keep this service.
26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall
say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
27 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of
the Lord’s passover, who passed over the houses of the children of
Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our
houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
What traditions do we have in the Lord’s Church in these
Latter-days to remind us that the Lord has not forgotten Israel and that He
continues to bless those who make covenants with Him?

Exodus
13:3, 8–10
¶ And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which
ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of
hand the Lord brought you out from this place: there
shall no leavened bread be eaten.
8 ¶ And thou shalt shew thy son
in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the Lord did
unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.
9 And it shall be for a sign unto thee
upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that
the Lord’s law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the Lord brought
thee out of Egypt.
10 Thou shalt therefore keep this
ordinance in his season from year to year.
In our day the Lord has also lovingly provided opportunities
to remember Jesus Christ. We can partake of the sacrament in remembrance of our
Savior. Look at the following pictures of the Passover and the sacrament. Think
about how they are similar.
Luke
22:13–15, 19–20
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made
ready the passover.
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and
the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have
desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
19 ¶ And he took bread, and gave
thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is
my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of
me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper,
saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood,
which is shed for you.
Elder Renlund:
Our Heavenly Father wants us to recall His and His Beloved
Son’s goodness … for the influence such remembrance has on us. By considering
Their kindness, our perspective and understanding are enlarged. By reflecting
on Their compassion, we become more humble, prayerful, and steadfast.
